P-53, as the designation suggests, is a spec that was standardised in 1953. As per the WWII combat shirts and pants, a 100% cotton HBT was still the fabric of choice for such garments.
The P-53 was standard USMC issue to all personnel and was the first of a new shape and design that was markedly different to previous models.
Whilst still allowing the wearer plenty of room, the sleeves and body are much trimmer than WWII models, with a waisted middle giving a much more shapely silhouette. The two breast patch pockets have enclosed buttons, as does the front closure, and the addition of a large, inside side-entry map pocket, allows plenty of stowage space.
Made entirely in Japan, who are the gurus in producing these types are garments, our recreation is made from an outstanding Mil Spec quality HBT which we had custom-made for the purpose. Along with accurately recreating the pattern, all other authentic details have been observed, from the type of buttons to the stitch-style and USMC pocket emblem.
