The sweatshirt was transformed from a wool-knit material to a cotton material with a looped backing, and evolved into the daily wear of the American public as a ‘sweat-absorbing shirt’. The military and military academies, where hard training was a daily routine, were quick to take notice, and the sweatshirts came to be sold at base shops scattered across the USA.
